The Raid 4 is a real-time tactical video game set in the Second World War. It is the fifth game in the Raid series and the fourth independently released game. It is the first game developed by Kite Games, which is a collaboration between industry veteran game developers. The single player game mode features 3 campaigns (German, Allied or Soviet) and performs over 20 missions with planned conversion support. Each mission in the different campaigns is based on a real-life World War II battle/invasion. For example, in the German campaign the player orders German troops to fight in the French campaign, Operation Barbarossa, the Battle of Stalingrad, the Battle of Kursk and the Price Rush War. The invasion of Poland is used as the game's tutorial and also acts as a prologue to the German campaign. Post-release DLC features other campaigns set in other theatres, such as the North African Campaign, the Winter War, the Battle of Dunkirk and the Pacific War.
The strategy is heavily based on that of its predecessor, focusing on the unique characteristics and skills of a limited number of units rather than resource gathering and infrastructure building. Reinforcements will still play a role in the game, but they are scripted and predictable. The game will also introduce the skill trees and commander roles of famous WWII generals such as George Patton, Heinz Guderian, Bernard Montgomery, Omar Bradley or George Zhukov.
