Dishonored: Death of the Outsider is an action-adventure sneak peek game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Software as the third installment in the Shame series, following Shame 2. Released on September 15, 2017 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game tells the story of Billie Lurk, a former assassin who finds his mentor Daud and helps him kill the Outsider, a supernatural being who can grant people magic.

The gameplay is similar to that of Shame and Shame 2. The player is equipped with a short sword. If the player sneaks up on an enemy, they can quickly and quietly stab them to death. Players also have other equipment such as wrist wrist, mines and grenades. The hook mine is a new item that can grab nearby enemies and render them unconscious or even kill them. After performing the first mission, the player will gain three supernatural abilities. Unlike previous games in the series, players do not purchase games with "runes". They are fully unlocked from the start. These abilities consume energy, but unlike previous games, the player's energy is completely self-regenerating. There are no consumables to replenish energy.

 Lurk's main maneuver is "Move", which allows her to set a marker in the world and teleport that marker at any time. "Appearance" allows the player to use the face of a sentient non-player character as a temporary disguise, although they can only acquire the character's face once. Camouflage consumes energy while the player is moving, but not while the player is stationary. Using appearances on specific named NPCs may result in unique interactions. Completing the game will unlock the "Original Game Plus" mode, in which players can use certain features from Dishonored 2. As in previous games, players can collect "bonecharms" that are scattered throughout the levels. Wearing bonecharms can slightly enhance the player's abilities.

During missions, players can obtain optional "contracts" on the black market, which are side missions that involve performing tasks such as assassinating another character. In one example, a character is tasked with killing a mime and making it look like he or she committed suicide.
