Description

WATCHDOGS: LEGION (as programmed as the ornamental dog L≡GION) is a 2020 action adventure game developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft. It is the third part of the Watch Dogs series and the sequel to 2016's Watch Dogs 2. Set in a futuristic fictional representation of the anti-utopian London, the game's story follows the hacker crime syndicate DedSec as they seek to clear their name after being framed for a series of terrorist bombings.DedSec also seeks to free the citizens of London from the control of the repressive private military corporation Albion. In the wake of the bombings, the city is turned into a surveillance state.

While the core gameplay is similar to previous games, including shooting, driving, stealth and hacking puzzles, Legion introduces a multiple playable character system that allows players to recruit virtually every NPC found in the game's open world. each playable character has their own unique skills and background, and if the player enables the permadeath option before starting a new game, it may be be permanently lost. There are multiple ways to complete quests, depending on which playable character is selected. in March 2021, a multiplayer co-op mode was added to the game, allowing up to four players to complete quests together or explore London together.

Legion Again was released on 29 October 2020 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia, and in November as a launch title for Xbox Series X / S, PlayStation 5 and Amazon Luna. Following its release, the game received mixed reviews. Critics were polarised on the multiple playable character aspect, with some appreciating its complexity and the inclusion of permadeath to allow players to develop emotional attachments, while other critics criticised the lack of personality of the playable characters and the imbalance between the different characters' abilities. Criticism was also directed at the game world, driving skills, inconsistent difficulty and repetitive missions.

How to play

Watch Dogs: Legion is an action-adventure game from a third-person perspective that takes place in an open-world environment based in London, which you can explore on foot - using parkour sports - vehicles and also through the city's underground stations. The eight London boroughs are represented in the game: Westminster, Wandsworth, Lambeth, Southwark, Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Bridge, in addition to the City of London. The game consists of several quests, which include missions to make the main story move forward, liberation missions designed to unleash the urban boroughs in the setting, recruitment missions for new playable characters, and various side events where players are free to pursue missions or events or explore the secrets and collectibles in the city. The objectives of each mission can be approached through one or several different methods: overt combat methods using multiple weapons; stealth methods using the environment to avoid detection and surveillance of enemy patterns; or invasion methods using any hackable object to subdue enemies by trapping or disrupting them while finding targets and accessing them remotely via cameras. Combat includes gunplay - involving lethal and non-lethal firearms - as well as close-range combat action where enemies will use different methods depending on how the player is dealing with them in combat (for example, a guard being hit) a punch will use a melee attack). When fleeing, enemies may pursue the player, including hostile drones, but they will lose the player if they make use of invadable environmental objects (such as vents) and avoid line of sight with their followers.

Unlike previous games in the series, Legion has the ability to use multiple characters during play, each of which can be recruited from around the game's setting.  While the player must choose a character to begin with after the prologue chapter of the story, others can be recruited from anywhere in the game's environment after completing the game's initial story missions, which also includes those working in the hostile Faction. These recruits become operators, and the player is free to switch to these operators at any time, as well as customise them using different costume options, with each recruitable character maintaining their own lifestyle and occupation when not active (i.e., spending time drinking at the bar). Each recruitable character has different traits and skills depending on their background-a spy agent can use a silent pistol and can summon a special spy tool that carries a rocket to carry around; a rogue agent can gather friends to help in a fight; a builder can use a large drone for heavy loads and a nail gun for combat; and " adrenaline junkie" agents can do more damage, but risk being knocked out/killed at random moments. Operatives gain experience when used by the player, which gives them additional skills and abilities to improve their abilities, and players can spend "tech points" to provide additional upgrades to all characters - collectibles spread throughout the city that can be spent on weapon and gadget upgrades. In addition to the standard recruitable NPCs, players can also purchase special NPCs on their roster, called Prestige Operatives - these unique characters have extraordinary weapons and, with their increased level compared to regular agents, they can receive higher treatment.

All potential recruits have an additional statistic detailing whether they can be recruited when approached - their thoughts on DedSec. Certain recruits may not join if they prefer those who oppose them (e.g. a rival faction), or if there is a character on that player's roster that they hate, or if DedSec has taken actions that hurt NPCs with whom they have a good relationship. If recruits can be recruited, players will be required to complete quests related to the problem they need to solve. An example of such a quest would be to help someone determine why they have been constantly spying on them recently. It is possible to kill any recruitable character in combat, either in battle, in an accidental death or explosion, or for their own traits, and as long as the player has the permadeath option enabled, they can be permanently removed from the player's roster of playable characters; if not, the character is only unavailable and needs to be simply rescued by another operator. If the player loses all characters due to death or arrest, the game will end.
