Description

My name is Bonnie and my family loves to be scared! Do you want to scare them off? Follow me and I'll show you how!

Float around the house and look for your family. Hide under tables, curtains or even behind duvets. Search the rooms but stay out of the light or you will be seen. Shake things, turn on the kettle and make the characters feel nervous! Can you hear their heartbeat? Great, it's time to BOO!

Turn on the disco music and dance with humor, eat some pepper in the kitchen just in case, panic, enjoy being invisible, and find all the different hiding places-even the bathroom!

Unique and mysterious, the simple and beautiful design will easily guide you into the world of Toca Boo. Fall in love with the 6 different characters and explore all the details of this big mysterious house.

Why fear of exploration is a good thing

Toca Boo puts kids in charge of scares - which is timely for Halloween, but also a topic worth considering for young kids any time of the year. Play designer Chris Lindgren hears about how engaging in scary but safe play can help children learn to manage their emotions and become confident in the face of new challenges (things that are useful in everyday life).

If you've played with Toca Boo, you've probably noticed that it's darker and more mysterious than many of our previous apps. Any kid (or adult!) who plays with this digital toy will be frightened - which is timely for Halloween, but it's also a general theme worth considering for younger kids.

Some parents have asked us for advice on how to guide their children when playing with Toca Boo. Game designer Chris Lindgren offers more insight.

Why did we choose to make an app that is a bit scary? What was the inspiration?

For this project, I wanted to explore a rather unusual mood in children's apps: quirky, a little scary, full of tension - the kind of mood that makes hide-and-seek so exciting. I found inspiration in reading "Who Wants to Comfort Toffler?" and found inspiration. With my own daughter in tow, I watched her get hooked on the magical, melancholy atmosphere of Tove Jansson's world of Moomin. We combined this inspiration with a lot of crazy humor to create the unique experience of Toca Boo.

How to play

At the very beginning of the app, you can see that the ghost is indeed a little girl who has a sheet over her head. Talking about the people in the house as a family member who loves to play hide-and-seek may ease some of the tension.

In this era, children begin to be able to symbolize fear and excitement and often turn it into play, such as hide-and-seek. Children need to express fear and depression. It is important to know that children can control themselves and explore roles through play.

There are 2 floors and 6 rooms of the big house to explore!

-Intimidate 6 family members

-Hide surprises in the house

-Eat to scare bigger!

-Interact with the objects in the house

-Beautiful, original artwork

-Open-ended play with no rules or pressure

-Kid-friendly interface
