The game was originally created by Milton Bradley in 1860 as The Square Game of Life, the first game created by the successful printmaker Bradley. The modern version was originally released 100 years later in 1960. It was designed and produced by toy and game designer Reuben Klamer with the "heartfelt approval" of the Art Linkletter. It is now in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National History Museum and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame National Toy Gallery.
